I missed the last AHP tour, because of a big problem last month ,
after a long while of missing my friends, I decided its time to relax
and release myself from a major stress that happened a month ago.
so I joined the AHP Navotas-Malabon tour organized by my friends
I met my friends at San Bartolome Church in Malabon since its near
Monumento, so I missed the St.Joseph Parish Church and Navotas
ancestral houses early in the morning. I did'nt see PSST writter and
Collector's Connection blogger -Rence Chan today.I guess he is busy
with a loaded schedule from a lot of event invites. we miss you Rence!
Registration was a breeze...well organized. kudos to the organizers and coordinator

The tour begins at San Bartolome Church, followed by a visit to the
these heritage houses of old Malabon: SyJuco House, Nepomuceno House,
El Casa Katipunero and then Angel Cacnio Gallery then back to Monumento.
when in Malabon, The six destinations for adventurous diners are the
Lugaw Xperience, Hazel’s Puto, Jamico’s restaurant, Dolor’s Kakanin,
Nanay’s Pansit and Betsy’s Cake Center.
and these foods cannot be compared to competition from fast-food chains,
these home-based eateries have thrived because their delicious dishes or pastries
can be found only in Malabon,
And so our first stop was the church in San Bartolome.

Tambobong now known as Malabon was founded as a "Visita" of
Tondo, Manila on 21 May 1599. It composed of two small islands
namely Navotas and Maysilo.
On 17 May 1614 Tambobong was established as an independent parish
under the advocation of San Bartolome Apostol.
Malabon celebrates the feast of their Patron saint, Apostle Saint
Bartholomew every 24th day of August.
The City was a part of the Old Tondo province and have been in existence even in
the early years of Spanish Occupation when it was still called "Tambobong" which is
a specie of bamboo abundant at the place at that time. The town's parish has recently
celebrated its 406 years of foundation(so I will assume that its been populated since
1614 or perhaps earlier?) visit Malabon specially their tricycle tours and discover
and un-learn whats written in your old outdated history books. there are still
many remnants of the old Malabon still existing in the city.
Egay giving us a talk. listen....
years ago and has since became a school, a tobacco factory until it became
a residential house.
we choosed to get inside the house first before having lunch here are some
of the interior shots taken by my pretty photog Jenny See.
to damage the floors.
as I watched in amazement of the marvelous collection of antique furnitures and
paintings, I peeped outside and saw my friends, everyone loves heritage as much
as I do.. and am not alone and its lunchtime! better go downstairs
here are some pictures taken by Addel
with antique collector Henry Wee
after lunch we have our photo taken by Amigo Addel before we bid goodbye
to our host.

photo ops with the owner of the house, before we leave for our next destination
then we had lunch and it was good!
Our lunch Hazels puto, Nanays Pancit Malabon, and krispy pata. yummy!
some of the much popular delicious food Malabon is known for.
the Pancit ng Malabon (It is a type of noodle with yellow-orange sauce and
has various ingredients including seafoods, chicharon and egg).

and then we left for our next stop... pic by: Presy |
Our second stop was the ancestral house of Marcy Nepomuceno Paguio
of Ninong Ading's Veranda Restaurant.
she gave us a short intro and background of her business Ninong Ading's
Veranda
here are the picture inside the Nepomuceno ancestral. this was once a big
house but was "cut" in half. only the bedroom area remains, you will notice
this when you get inside.
here are more pictures of the Nepomuceno House
love the restaurant. and shoutout to the cutie from Malabon tourism who
assisted us with the refreshing grape juice.
then we walked a few meters to marvel at the few remaining old houses of Malabon.
with our friend Egay dela Fuente.
in excellent condition while many evidently needs restoration or already in ruined
state. Many more Malabon Ancestral Houses images courtesy of Jerry Punzalan Sagmit
Raymundo House is the presumed as the oldest house in Malabon. Built in
1861, the two storey structure has a ground floor stone wall and 2nd floor
wood and stone walls. What made this bahay-na-bato standout is its
Hapsburg Eagle inscribed above the adobe gateway.
then off to El Casa Katipunero we go...the house was built by katipunanerp
Apolinario Marcelo and now maintained by granddaughter named
Carmelita Migallos who is now the caretaker of "El Casa Katipunero'
the house is full of history. what caught my attention are the pictures found inside.
I was surprised that lola can do fortune telling and even told me I have
a male guardian angel.
we then walk to Dolor's kakanin, I was surprised to find out that the place is
well hidden. if you are not from Malabon, and didnt ask for directions, you

would not find it. I promise you. photo shows Egay and my chicks friend Angel Ann

they love the experience.
after this, it rained hard. yes! one that will make you really worried that you
wont look good when you get all wet. but we are lucky it never happened.
my friend Jenny still retains her poise! hehe
then we drove to our next destination... LUNCHTIME! yes we ate again!
lunch by Jamico’s Restaurant. Our food includes Crispy Pata and other local dishes.Crispy Pata (Deep Fried Pork Leg.)
we drove to Paseo Gallery after lunch and we thought that our friends are there,
but only to discover there were none. the doors is locked.. and so we drove to the
Angel Cacnio house thanks to Waze.
but...before leaving.... picture picture...
and our final destination was the house of the Maestro Angel Cacnio we met the
86 yr old owner who was so friendly to us. he told us about how his talent helped
him to crawl out of poverty.
.
Its my lucky day because of this...A signed drawing by the Maestro.
Me and Jen walking the mastro |
this concludes another successful tour of AHP....how I wish my City,
Caloocan, is as colorful as Malabon's heritage culture.
Malabon is counting on its provincial charm and home-based businesses
to draw in tourists. I hope to meet miss Millennial Malabon in
the next tour...
After the tour, I can see that Malabon is a very interesting place,
for their unique tricycle tour, a beautiful educational project of Chef
Melissa Oreta, the great food tour experience, the old ancestral houses,
and the unique pedicabs, but it is not always about that. so come join
in the fun of the Malabon Tricycle tours, and discover Malabon its history,
its people and its food.
this is your LOVERBOY Dennis signing out...
