Postal heritage tour

it has been a while since I last attended Rence's FREE POSTAL HERITAGE
TOURS so when I read that there will be one scheduled this December I
immediately signed up. Rence has been doing this for more than a decade
already, encouraging people to relive the hobby of philately through  educational
postal walking tour. this will be his last advocacy tour for this yr.

after a short talk from Rey Ong and Arlene  and after the short presentation
regarding philpost operations.  the postal philatelic shop was opened for
us. naturally we got some for us, took some home. and purchased stamps
for our collection.
we are also told that soon, the postal museum will be opened again
most probably by next year

we are toured inside to see the actual  operation.
this picture below shows how the mails are sorted. yes, manually.

below are pictures of post office boxes.
this is how beautiful the post office , so big that there has been problems
financially, on maintaining the whole building, you see, philpost gets its operation
expense from monthly income generated. in recent decades, there has been
a massive use of emails which has  greatly affected the number of people who use
traditional postal mail. and the hobby of philately has slowed down over decades
of technological change. like the film based cameras,  the post office has not
anticipated the rise of the internet.

for the past 3 yrs. there has been a plan to transform the philpost building to
the Singapore based Fullerton Hotel. some practical reasons for the possible
transformation of the Philpost building in to Fullerton Hotel. is budget.
One of the main reasons includes the opinion that the building is too big for a
post office with the higher maintenance cost not getting economical for the
management.

its a halfday tour, worth all our time! at the end of the tour. we were bought
to Toho food house for our lunch and off we go, back to our work.
its been a fruitful saturday morning.
this is your LOVERBOY Dennis signing out.
