ASEANPEX 2017

Yesterday concludes the 3 day stamp exhibit the first after 21 yrs...
its my first time! I survived the 3 day with just a flu due to lack of sleep!
and today ?  its back to reality for me. back to work. to my philatelist friends,
After the 3 day event.... we all discovered a lot of things...

There is one thing we can agree upon, The number of budding philatelists have
gone down drastically. But Philately is very much alive! the hobby is just evolving
to a different level.

Stamps are history and I love collecting as much as I love Filipino heritage and
our history.

oh by the way here are the now famous ASEANPEX Special Souvenir Sheets
1,2,&3 for day 1 2 and day 3 and their corresponding Official First Day Covers
will be available starting November 4,5,& 6 respectively at the Hall 1, post office
booth. one thing though, Only a thousand Souvenir sheets are printed. so, you
can only get 1 design per day. if you want to complete the set, you have to visit
ASEANPEX everyday. buy 500 worth of stamps, and buy the S/S at 100.00
a good way to start collecting stamps, if you have a job.

I have some videos I took before the ribbon cutting, Here is what you see

here we have president Ramos  the philatelist. answering some questions.

and this is an actual tour inside Hall1

the opening ceremony
ribbon cutting

we need to look for a way on how we can unite stamp clubs with one mission,
to introduce philately to the youth. because they will inherit our collection.
like the aswang, a philatelist last wish is to pass on the treasure to the chosen one..
a new philatelist. in my family. am the only philatelist. how bout yours?
how many ? thats a big challenge. kids and the young generation are much
interested in gadgets and tech toys than stamps. little did they know that with
the right knowledge and discipline, these stamps can cost have 5 -10 times
more than what their favorite iphone. in the past, only rich people collect stamps,
but now? you can.

to get a newbie started there is this PHILATELIC PASSPORT wher in a begginner
needs to complete all the empty boxes with stamps  corresponding to an ASEAN
member country, have it cancelled. and when completed. you get a special prize.

this is a sample passport of Eric Cariaga

heres a talk by Rey Ong to the students, to convince them. to collect.
and another talk by Dodjie

a talk by Willard Cheng,

a talk by Hidilyn Diaz

the three-day exhibit carried the theme “ASEANPEx 2017: Exploring the beauty
and diversity of ASEAN culture and tradition.” attended by ambassadors,
dignitaries from other ASEAN countries, heads from various government
sectors, celebrities and other personalities, students(on the last day),
philatelist(everyday), and other enthusiasts including VALAC.

here are some pictures taken during the 3 day event

this is so far the biggest booth, the Stamp shop has the biggest with 3 booths
heres a look at the 200 frames exhibit area

in support and celebration of the Philippine chairmanship of the 50th founding anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), PHLPost recently hosted the ASEAN Invitational Philatelic Exhibit or ASEANPEx 2017 last November 4 - 6, at hall 1 of the SMX Convention Center in MOA. highlights was this selfie stamp sold for 150.00 and YOU only only you can have this. and that night on the 2nd day of ASEANPEX , I get to meet the big names
in Philippine Philately when I joined them to MNL night dinner at the CONRAD.

The shortest route to unhappiness is to make comparisons. collectors should
all be happy for fellow collectors. everyone should only have 1 goal.
UNITED PHILATELIST group. a study group. to convince kids, and the
youth to love this very old hobby of kings. but is so affordable now,
for you and me.

this is your LOVERBOY Dennis signing out.
