AHP PULILAN HERITAGE TOUR 2018

Today I woke up early again on a rainy Saturday morning, for another adventure, to
travel back in time again. even if its raining...(this is my first AHP tour for 2018)
because I know every AHP tours are a fusion of great adventure, history and
culture.I went with my pretty photog Jenny. and waited for the rest of the
service vans to arrive. while waiting we had breakfast at the nearby convenient
store.
we didnt join the convoy so we just relied on waze and the barangay tanods to
show us the way. surprisingly casa Balbina is not listed in waze. so we decided to
search for the nearest municipal hall instead.

when we arrive at Pulilan, this old house greeted us. the 1927 Cassanova-Aguirre
ancestral house. I stop by and tried to take a picture up close but got scared of the
angry doggies who greeted me.

our first stop was the 1910 Casa Balbina. we registered. paid the registration fee
of 850.00 which included breakfast of lugaw, hot coffee, covered all entrance fees,
including lunch and mirienda.
I was with Jen at 711 a few minutes before, so we arrived at Casa Balbina
15 mins later. we missed taking pictures inside.. sorry. no pictures (from me)
of  what to see inside Casa Balbina. but I manage to get some from the
pretty Angel Ann. (below is a video made by Johnson Bernardo for AHP)

here are some more pics(photo credits:Angel Ann Dimazana)

Pulilan is a beautiful town rich in history. and no gangster youths
singing ExBattalion  rap roaming around. now thats good news!

The town is famous for its Carabao Festival where carabaos are paraded and let to
kneel as they pass through San Isidro Labrador Parish Church, in honor to the town's
patron saint, San Isidro Labrador. The ancient town of Pulilan was first documented as
Puliran in the Laguna Copperplate Inscription.

ok we go to our second stop.............

Museo de Pulilan is the new name of Pulilan Municipal Trial Court after it was restored
in May 25, 2013. It is also known by the locals as the former Gabaldon Building  near
the Municipal Hall compound.

going inside the museum tells not only about the history of a rich agricultural
town and of her illustrious sons and daughters. Inside this museum are
different sculptures, paintings and old documents about the history of the town.
here are some of the pictures found inside, later in this blog you can watch the
video tour of the museum.

I manage to meet Andrew and his group of heritage warriors called JEFARCA -
(from the initials of the names of the founders of the group.) they are quite successful in
their efforts of  actively preserving and promoting the town’s heritage assets.
when we went inside the municipal hall, Andrew gave a short 15 minute talk about
Pulilan its history and culture. here is the video...

after the talk, we all went inside the museum

Several themes are found in each section of Museo de Pulilan. One documents education
in the Gabaldon, displaying records of teachers and students of the school from 1917 to
the 1960s. One section presents a timeline of the history of Pulilan from 1794 to 2013.

inside the museum I saw a lot of Carabao art...and almost everyting you see are
focused on the carabao. the town is now known for the kneeling carabao, and the
two-year-old Pulilan Carabao Art Festival, known as Mandala.

the carabaos are painted. Papier-mâché models of the beast of burden are found
in one room and almost every corner of the museum

I also got this beautiful book by Andrew de Guzman its a good book
about  Pulilan a great book to add to your bookshelf

The art festival is a revitalized version of the traditional carabao parade, where carabaos
are adorned with colorful decorations and paraded downtown toward the Church of
San Isidro Labrador, where they often kneel and knee-walk in imitation of the pious
believers inside the church.

Our next stop is the church just across the museum. San Isidro Labrador Parish Church.

San Isidro Labrador or the Laborer, (patron saint of the farmers, and the town as well )
on May 15. or during the 14th day of May Pulileños celebrate the feast in honor of
their saint by parading carabaos and making them kneel in front of the church as a sign
of respect for their patron saint of farmers.

when we got inside, Father Mar had a short 5 minute talk to us.

Father Mar, the antique collector is the author of Straight from the heart, a prayer
companion book which sold a lot of copies. after the talk, we are given a short

10minute tour inside the church. including the area where the large wooden
door can be seen.

San Isidro Labrador Parish Church, a 19th-century baroque church located at the town
center, where carabaos during the feast are made to kneel as tribute to the their patron
saint. The Museo San Ysidro Labrador is also situated here.

A whole day is not enough to cover all the beauty that this province has to offer, but
it was enough to gain some unforgettable experiences. Indeed, more than its history  and

it’s just an hour away Monumento.
