Armed Forces Celebrates 82nd Anniversary

Last Sunday I  was lucky enough to be invited to the 82nd anniversary of AFP
at The Fort. by my friend Jenny. I woke up early and traveled to
Herman's place so we could all be in one car. Because parking would be
very hard.. this is my first time to attend an anniversary of AFP in Fort Bonifacio.

The annual anniversary celebration is not always about the AFP, its a show of our
country's advancement as an institution.and has been doing this annual event  with
dedication and pride, all for the Filipino people, our AFP have sworn to serve and
protect.

We are toured by Major Mike, he was very busy but took time to guide us and
showed us around, while talking and exchanging stories, I learned that Major Mike

is a Physical Theraphy graduate before his military service, and is currently
finishing his Masteral degree in Public Administration despite his busy schedule.

Did you know that there is a tunnel underneath a bldg which runs along the entire
32nd St.of The Fort with lateral passages through various points in the area.
This tunnel was built by the Americans and served as Japanese soldier’s hiding
place during the Liberation of Manila. Today, however, the tunnel is only a memory.
Since the conversion of the fort, the tunnel was permanently closed to the public.

Visitors are welcomed with the big tarp that reads 82nd anniversary . yes, the Army
we love has a long history from 1896 to present. wait, why 82nd anniv? when our
soldiers has been fighting with Aquinaldo? (should be 121 yrs?), in your history class,
we will remember that in accordance with the National Defense Act of 1935, the Armed
Forces of the Philippines was officially established on December 21, 1935, when the act
entered into force. and Mc arthur as field marshall, and later on. President Quezon in 1936.
The Army of the Philippines included naval and air assets directly reporting to Army
headquarters, and the Philippine Constabulary, later part of the ground forces proper as
a division. In 1938 the Constabulary Division was separated from the army and reorganized
into a national police force.

The 1987 Philippine Constitution placed the AFP under the control of a civilian, the President,
who acts as its Commander-in-Chief. and then All of its branches are part of the Dept.of
National Defense, which is headed by the Secretary of National Defense.

The ground exhibits feature various weaponry  that were used by the Army in its
campaign against insurgents.

and there are pictures featuring soldiers' struggles in Marawi, protecting our country's
sovereignty.

this is the bio hazard hazmat unit of our Philippine Army being tried
out by my best friend Herman Tan. the shoes alone is 15 pound, oxygen
tank not yet included, you need  special training to get to move around
without killing yourself due to suffocation.

everybody enjoyed this educational tour. a great experience indeed.
many thanks to Major Mike.
